Got final proofs from @UCILawReview and so excited to share! In this paper, I argue that rising T visa denials can be explained by looking at how administrative actors established diffuse, harsh policies to create "minefields" in the application process. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.…

Ashamed by this profession which I love.Women are many of the greatest legal scholars but 45/50 on the “top” list are men.* This sexism is an embarrassment. Here’s my challenge to colleagues of all sexes, most of whom I admire. Read women’s work. Do it now. Cite them. That’s all.

And by #citemorewomen, I mean… hire more women… in tenure-track positions… give them less service (or not more than their male-identified peers). Support and mentor them. And then #citemorewomen.

H/t to @ewarren and @SenMarkey for bringing attention to troubling conditions for immigrant detainees at Plymouth. “People inside have kept speaking up…” says Elizabeth Nguyen @BeyondBondBos. Thanks to @sweetadelinevt @wgbh for your excellent coverage!

@jdahlstrom765, another attorney for the detainee at plymouth, says that the county didn't have the right protocol in place when her client applied for certification. He was denied. His court case seeks to have that changed. wgbh.org/news/local-news/202… #mapoli @GBHNews

Thanks to @cogwbur for highlighting this commentary with @RachelJWechsler about the #MaxwellTrial. Although #Maxwell was found guilty, this is likely not the final chapter for survivors.
Although Ghislaine Maxwell was found guilty, her trial is likely not the end of the long, fraught road for survivors, write @jdahlstrom765 and @RachelJWechsler. wbur.fm/3eOHXd1

Lawyers can be kind. They can have empathy. And we do best as a profession when we model it.
I don’t know who in the professoriate needs to hear this (okay I do, but I’m not naming names), but it costs you nothing to treat your students with kindness. They learn more from displays of empathy than they would from the lessons you believe strict rules will teach them.

Excellent op-ed by @Prof_Hlass & @rayraydson chronicling the lives of +44,000 immigrant kids in legal limbo. Just one: “Fernando…worries about aging out of care with no protection from deportation, no way to legally work and no ability to support himself.” #endsijsbacklog
Check out my @MsMagazine op-ed with @rayraydson of @Door_NYC & @EndSIJSBacklog: More than 44,000 immigrant children are stuck in legal purgatory because of the SIJS Backlog - Congress, please help us #EndSIJSBacklog now! msmagazine.com/2021/12/14/si…

If they can come for Roe v Wade, don’t assume that cases once considered sacrosanct- Brown v bd of education for example, are off limits. I’m not being an alarmist, I’m being a realist about this moment in time & the goals of this project. #DobbsvJackson

It is extraordinary. I'm just astonished. To share such painful events is an act of unparalleled strength, courage, selflessness, and humanity. The direct focus on abortion rights aside, the number of people who have also faced abuse who will read this and feel less alone.
