One thing we must not forget is the culpability of many Tory backbenchers in resisting restrictions until the hundreds of people are dying and NHS is on its knees.

Changes to junctions that stop cyclists from being killed by HGVs should not exclusively come in the wake of a preventable death.

If you’ve not followed the story of how some Americans have turned to a drug called Ivermectin to treat or prevent COVID despite no public evidence it does this, a tweet can’t do it justice. Trust me, it’s worth 7 minutes. Produced @briony_sowden bbc.co.uk/news/coronavirus

Open Government is like the live theatre: in order to have something to show openly there must first be much hidden activity. And all sorts of things have to be cut or altered in rehearsals, and not shown to the public until you have got them right.

The @ONS has worked out age-adjusted #COVID19 deaths by vaccination status. There’s a pretty clear trend. Full report and data here: ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationa…

On 9/11 I was at work. No internet. Tel's mate texted that plane had crashed into WTC. Then got a text of plane crashing into 2nd tower. Said Tel's mate was winding him up. Found truth from car radio. Went home at 14:00 & glued to TV 'til 10 (which pissed the dog off!)
Watching inside the presidents war room about 9/11. its an excellent documentary. obviously one of those moments that you remember exactly where you were and what you were doing. Still incredible 20yrs on having seen these pictures countless times that this actually happened.

Apologies to those of you who’ve been waiting for a model update: I’ve been slowed down a bit by work, start-of-term chaos with the kids, and by trying to organise an U13 girls rugby team. But it’s finally here in its glorious 25-tweet thread detail. Hope you enjoy…. 1/25

THREAD: This is complicated but v important. At the moment there are two types of care clients - those who are funded by state (council) and those who fund themselves privately. Private clients have always paid more than councils do. Providers need that subsidy to survive. 1/4

2/2 Taxes I’d increase before contemplating regressive NI hikes: > Income tax > New higher council tax bands > Capital gains tax > Even inheritance tax

Just a friendly reminder. Despite what you might hear, there has yet to be a variant that isn’t susceptible to the vaccines.

COVID is airborne. SARS is airborne. MERS is airborne. Influenza is airborne. Rhinovirus (common cold) is airborne. RSV is airborne. See a pattern? If you treat respiratory diseases, download and carefully read this paradigm-shifting paper. @kprather88 science.sciencemag.org/conte…

Getting this down for my own thinking. I've been reflecting on why there is such reluctance in the ID/IPAC community, generally (there are exceptions) to accept aerosol spread of COVID as the primary mode of transmission and to recommend appropriate mitigation.

Best cabinet quote of the day: “After all that’s happened in the last 18 months they can’t seriously be thinking about a tax raid on supermarket workers and nurses so the children of Surrey homeowners can receive bigger inheritances.” in @Telegraph
