Good day to reflect on the zero-sum nature of time, your true values and priorities, and what 10-50 year mission you really want to be on.

risk underwriting is a social phenomenon more than a financial one. and if the population demographics (or portfolio construction) of an investment community radically shifts, you'd be wise to carefully study that-- not yell at the everyone to get off your Swensonite lawn
(New Post) Speculative Bubbles in the 21st Century & Asymmetric Upside I've long discussed the emergence of scaled understanding of asymmetric upside and what it has done to markets and novel asset classes. This post is a quick braindump on that. mhdempsey.substack.com/p/spe…

spend time every single day helping someone else start their career (not just advising your mid-career friends), or accept you’re pulling the ladder up behind you.
Walked through SOMA & downtown SF tonight past several old offices of mine & rather than thinking ‘what a waste of space,’ I really felt for the next gen that isn’t/won’t get in-person mentorship, friendships and connection…the foxhole ‘we’re in this together’ energy.

Happy 25th anniversary. Can’t think of a musical artist who lived more in the future than these two. What they made, and did. The impact they had on music, fashion, art, identity, politics, all coming out of the backdrop of 90’s hip-hop and 90’s American society. Awe inspiring.

Every VC who joined the industry before yesterday talking about people joining today: “They are only pissing on a fireplug to establish territory in the face of recent arrivals… you will always meet a stockbroker… who is eager to establish he was there first.”

The tech industry city dialogue seems to assume zero sunk cost in relocation, and geographic presence as a primary driver of success. I respect relocating for an adventure. But in Boston we prefer loyalty over royalty, and value the creative confidence that comes with community.

.@SenBlumenthal accused Apple of copying @TheTileApp's products with its new AirTags device. Apple's Kyle Andeer responded: "We always create something different and special and unique." Here are Tile's trackers. Here are Apple's. They essentially do the same thing.

The current NFT bubble feels just like GME to me. Yes, there is an important long term secular trend underneath. But current prices are mostly a reflection of online communities trying to signal legitimacy (and the usual runaway train FOMO).
