At the request of the recording industry, GitHub has removed public access to the youtube-dl repository, an incredibly useful open source tool for downloading local copies of videos from YouTube and other sites. Here's RIAA's takedown notice github.com/github/dmca/blob/…

The youtube-dl website is still up, but the download links are all broken because they were hosted on GitHub youtube-dl.org/ Linux users can still easily "apt install youtube-dl" of course

I just checked, sadly "brew install youtube-dl" fails from macOS because it downloads the source from github

But you can still install it on any platform, including macOS, using Python's package manager pypi.org/project/youtube_dl/ "pip3 install --user youtube-dl"

in a show of iNCREDIBLY POOR TASTE and STAGGERING TONE DEAFNESS, I got this spam from youtube today complaining that 'im not posting enough'. Nearly every video I've posted has had music, and has been slapped with some kinda copyright auto-complaint.

Hey @DavidVorick and @SiaTechHQ: is there a way of hosting something like GitHub on the Sia network?

We started :) github.com/quorumcontrol/dgi… needs the collab features though. Someone already added GitHub pages.

"reproduce and distribute music videos and sound recordings owned by our member companies without authorization for such use" how can they prove that? if there were no mentions of Icona Pop & co, would Github also have complied? why not remove @qbittorrent too, then?
