Ah ok I see your point. I assumed single payer meant "nobody pays out of pocket for anything" but you're right that 'anything' is really "what is covered" and that can theoretically be defined in arbitrarily complex ways. Apologies for the misread.

I was just trying to riff on what looked like a joke that you made. I guess there's nothing to laugh about after all.

All the people against socialized medicine are more likely to be unvaccinated and thus would get pissed about this disparity. They'd demand to be treated equally to people without preexisting "conditions" (of not liking vaccines)

Same problem as culture series - all the action takes part at the fringe of civilisation where the utopia is missing. Constantly at battle stations!

And it merely relies on them not using copy/paste. Basically foolproof.

I like all of the above, including PS. X-risks are a big deal AND they are less than 50% likely to happen, so it's clearly worth investing in making the non-xrisk outcomes better.

+ 1000. Frankly it would not seem so pie-in-the-sky to mail all these tests if they had the same costs as they do in Europe (5-10X cheaper!) AND it would be less necessary bc people could afford them better on their own.

Would love to see you defend that with more detailed logic before dismissing the intervention as a cargo cult.

I'm vaccinated AND I understand I can still be infected and retransmit, so I also test regularly. Responsible people dominate the math even though they are individually causing less harm.

You're eliding the entire gap between the current state and containment. What if you could cut deaths in half with free tests?

(because responsible people would test and then self-quarantine early in their infection to reduce spread and also bc they would know to go seek early pharmaceutical intervention)
