I know everyone loves the image of the starving artist producing her best work by avoiding the ennui & conventions of a bourgeois life, but the reality is precarity prevents artists from dedicating time & energy to their craft—silencing the voices of poets & decolorizing our 🌍

EFF once again demonstrates its unwavering support for artists: “Kurbanov’s legal team specifically cites EFF which concluded that, in circumvention terms, youtube-dl works in the same way as a regular web browser.” ⁦@MusicWorkers@artistrightsnow torrentfreak.com/youtube-rip…

Our democracy faces a crisis that requires action. Now is the moment to reach beyond region, beyond party, beyond self, to save and reinvigorate the sputtering flame of the American idea. That is why we must pass the #FreedomToVoteAct.

“Is the internet living up to its promise of connecting people to info & each other?” @knightfdn Is that what the internet promised? IMHO, the idea that connecting people on its own w/o regard to rules benefits the public is the original sin of internet governance. @ma_franks

The belief that connectivity in & of itself represents a public good is the original sin underlying tech utopianism. It’s not just Facebook—it’s the entire framework of Barlow-inspired cyberlibertarian internet governance. @knightfdn @ma_franks medium.com/@nturkewitz_56674…

Platform bans of offensive influencers have been in the news a lot recently. While much conversation has focused on the ethics of deplatforming, the preceding questions about its effectiveness and what happens in its aftermath have remained under-explored.

I would read an essay about how appeals to "community" in crypto have totally obscured power relations, governance, who makes money, and who's scamming who. This is an industry (wildly anarchic, unregulated, unequal, run by capital), not a community.
