If your team doesn't enable you to do things that you could not have done on your own, you're obviously on the wrong team. Same for the whole org.

“And then what happens?” - great thread from @oneraindrop
A critical question to ask about any security countermeasure is - "and then what happens?" This simple question is all too often not asked as security people get swept up in the complex daily algebra of threats and countermeasures (thread)

Asking "and then what happens" on each and every countermeasure illuminates many challenges and opportunities for security designers. Answering "and then what happens" leads directly to integration, which is an understudied subject in Infosec. (2)

The way that you choose to integrate your security services can change you system structure and behavior, and can increase or decrease your attack surface. (3)

Many times in both security academia and vendorland, integration is relegated to "implementation detail." But nothing could be further from the truth, it is not an accident that the NSA is fond of saying, "we don't break standards, we break implementations."(4)

problems arise for blue teamers just as often when they do their capability analysis in isolation. It is possible to match the right capability to the right threat, and still not get the expected outcome. The chief reason for this is integration. (5)

So what does it mean to incorporate integration into security design? See post for some ideas (fin) onmarginsofsafety.blogspot.c…

This may be the most important slide in First Republic's investor presentation. Which other companies highlight to investors what they *don't* do? It might be an interesting list of stocks to research.

This page is a disaster. Ignoring the chaos that Ben is highlighting for a moment, this starts with two invalid policies: the first uses the invalid priv s3:HeadBucket, the second is a resource policy that uses a resource of * instead of the ARN of the resource.
The IAM docs on policy evaluation have been updated with a table that explains how resource policies can or can't grant access beyond a permissions boundary docs.aws.amazon.com/IAM/late…

We stole your Tommy. We took your Gronk. We beat your beloved Pats last weekend. We just beat your Red Sox. Hide your Celtics and Bruins. We’re coming for everything, Boston. #RaysUp

This is either a great parody or a true sign of the financial apocalypse.
Already own a trained arabian hunting falcon? Collateralize it. Secure a loan financing another falcon. That falcon? Collateralize it too. There's no end to the number of falcons you can buy. The bank bundles its interests into a Falcon Backed Security and sells it. EVERYONE WINS
