The Baseball World lost one of our best. Former White Sox GM Roland Hemond past away at 92. Roland brought me back to the Sox in 1977. I was proud be on the South Side Hitmen. He was a classic human being and a baseball treasure. His career lasted 70 years. I loved the man. RIP

At the recent Leaders and Legends weekend in Las Vegas I learned something very valuable. I am a communicator. I explain baseball and life with the written and spoken word. In LV I learned how to LISTEN. I absorbed the knowledge and experience of true geniuses. I am enlightened

I wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving. Take time to be thankful for the good times and put the challenges on the back burner. Think of what you have not what you want. Look ahead but enjoy the present. It was a year of tribulations and joy. Be thankful for it all. Love your life

I just spent the weekend in Las Vegas at the Leaders and Legends event. Tony La Russa’s event to benefit Pets and Vets and the Animal Rescue Foundation. Speakers included Howard Schultz, George Will and Charles Barkley. Inspirational. Money and consciousness raised. Outstanding

For you wordsmiths I want to express my thoughts more clearly. Tony and Dusty have one big thing in common. They both get their teams and they’re players to play hard. Tony has finished 3 World Series runs with a win. Dusty has finished every playoff run with a loss. Clear enough

For those of you who might have misunderstood my World Series tweet, I’ll rephrase. There will be 4 very tough teams to overcome. In a Houston rematch understand that Dusty has lost the last game of every playoff series he’s ever managed. Tony has won 3 last games. Advantage Sox

I want to congratulate the Braves and Brian Snitker. Brian is a baseball lifer who finally won it all. He got to the Braves in 1977 and never left. 45 years and now he wears the crown. The Braves did everything a little better than Houston. Brian won. Dusty waits. Maybe next year

The off season brings an opportunity to play golf. This time of year courses are over seeded and some are closed. I played Scottsdale Silverado Golf Club today. It’s in great shape. A lot of ball players past and present play there. Paige Spiranac plays there also. Beautiful day

When you believe that starting and relief pitchers are the same you get in trouble. The 2 teams that believed that are the Dodgers and the Red Sox. They’re done. High leverage late game situations are the domain of the setup men and closers. Ignore that at your peril. WS awaits

I’ve heard a lot about banning the shift these last couple of years. Watching the Braves and Dodgers I just saw Will Smith and Cody Bellinger shorten their swing and hit it the opposite way. Situational hitting will defeat the shift. Refreshing to see some smart hitters

I’ll be on 670 The Score tomorrow to talk playoff baseball. Boston beats Tampa Bay. If our boys can get by Houston we’ll have homefield advantage. I have an idea how to beat McCullers. You’ll hear it tomorrow. Is the rainout a break for the Sox? It’s win or go home for our guys

The Sox were down 5 to 1 and facing elimination when the heart of this team was tested. We don’t know how it’ll turn out but we know there will be a game 4. The bullpen was nails and the offense pulled even then pulled away. The crowd was electric. Just 1 win and then just 1 win

The Sox are down 0-2. As a former player and current broadcaster I never concede and I never give up. If the boys do lose a 3rd game this wonderful and exciting season will end. You’ll have a long time to whine and blame anyone you want. I will analyze good and bad but not yet

For some of you who appear ready to jump off the roof let me explain something to you. If our Sox win tomorrow afternoon the guys will have taken homefield advantage away from Houston. It will be a 3 game series with 2 games in Chicago. Did you think it would be easy? It’s not

Jason had some very kind words about me and I want to add a few. A partnership in baseball is unlike any other because of the sheer volume of games. It’s like a a marriage in many ways. There are highs and lows but when it’s good it’s magic. We grew together. Jason is my partner
