While this was only a Minor S1 Radiation storm, the timing should be noted and how it relates to Astronauts in Space. Yesterday morning around this time, a Russian EVA was ongoing which leaves Astronauts outside of the station and therefore with less radiation shielding.
An M5.5 class solar flare occurred at 06:00Z this morning from AR 2929 leading to a moderate radio blackout and was associated with a type II and IV radio sweep as well as energetic protons. The CME associated with the flare was preliminarily analyzed as a miss. #spaceweather

It's hard to get the scale of the #Tonga volcano #eruption - it's massive. Look in the lower right of this video: Towards the end you can see the eruption and the huge shockwave it produces. The shockwave is just reaching Australia now!
