A Russian invasion is now virtually certain once the ground freezes, Biden said to Zelensky, a senior Ukrainian official told @mchancecnn. Kyiv could be “sacked," Russian forces may attempt to occupy it, “prepare for impact”, Biden said, according to this official.

Gold-standard cybersecurity reporting from Joe. Scoop after scoop!
Everybody: I am leaving Reuters after the most productive and satisfying decade of my career. I have been very lucky to work at such a decent, collegial and industrious place with wide reach and no bias. If you have appreciated my work, please read and/or RT this THREAD.

Unofficial APT names are all either “Lord Cthulhu’s Scythe Of Megadeth” or “The Flopsy-Wopsy Bunnies.” There is no in-between.

Tragically, we've all become numb to Covid's death toll. Sometimes it takes a tangible comparison to shake us out of complacency. I had such a moment today, when Covid deaths in the U.S. hit 875,000. That, as it happens, is the population of my city, San Francisco. Staggering.

This commander was involved with Fat Leonard (who is cooperating). His counsel subpoenaed our interview tapes with Leonard, looking for info to discredit him as a witness. Rather than simply hand them over, we made the tapes public in Dec. Looks like they didn't find anything.

The national security reporter’s lament: I wish there was even 1/1000th the amount of coverage of, say, a report on how a secret special operations task force bombed a dam in Syria on a no-strike list that could have killed “tens of thousands” as there is about a court vacancy.

Would love to hear more about what’s going on in Transnistria right now; seems somewhat glossed over that there’s also Russian troops and a pro-Russian rump state to Ukraine’s west. There’s Russian troops on every side of Ukraine.

I can’t overstate how wonderful a national security editor Sharon is, and how fortunate the WSJ is to have her helm the coverage there.
I've left it to reporters to break the news, but confirming: After three-and-half years with the amazing folks at @YahooNews, I'll be leaving soon to join @WSJ as National Security Editor. Incredibly excited to work w/the national security team-& everyone else-at the Journal.

I can say this from significant personal experience: Sharon is who you want in your corner on knotty, complex national security stories, from ideation to completion. She is that catalytic presence in a newsroom who just makes everyone better at their work.

Iranian counterintelligence runs the gamut from very mature (see: reported cracking of CIA COVCOM; APT39/REMIX KITTEN) to absolute jank (see: this). A great reminder that security and intelligence services are not monoliths—they can contain multitudes of operational quality.
My latest: Someone has spent the past four years creating fake Mossad recruiting websites and buying Google Ads to target them at intelligence and military veterans from Iran, the Assad regime, and Hezbollah. thedailybeast.com/shady-netw…
